Mental illness is here, it's here to stay, and it doesn't discriminate. It doesn't care how great your life may look like from the outside, it doesn't matter how much money is in your bank account, what kind of car you drive or how many friends you have. It's real, and it is something we need to deal with. And it is something that is very prevalent in our education system, with not just our students, but our teacher as well.
As someone who has struggled with my own mental well being, It has become an area of conversation that I feel needs to be discussed in our school systems. Not by just our FSWW but by everyone, we need to arm our teachers and students with the skills to help one another when the days become dark. In this session I want to speak firsthand, and tell my story. What my dark days of July looked like, how I felt, and how the voices grew louder inside my head. But more importantly I want to tell the story of how I dug out of the rabbit hole and what it takes on a daily basis for me to live my best life, how I deal with my insecurities, and how I have come to be in a situation and frame of mind to help others around me. During this session I want to create a safe atmosphere that allows the audience to realize they are not alone, and that other ordinary, happy people can struggle mentally. And hoping that then my experience may aid them in their search for a stronger mental state and in turn a happier and healthier life.
