During this session I intend to demonstrate how cooperative board games can be used in a language arts classroom. Not only is this an excellent way to build communication skills, both speaking and listening, but it can also lend itself to a variety of writing prompts. It is the intent that in addition to learning about the possibilities of learning about how these games can be used in a classroom setting, attendees will hopefully have the opportunity to try out some of the games. Although the focus will be games that can be used from grades 6 and up, there are other games that could be used for younger grades.
I am currently a teacher with Red Deer Catholic, teaching grade 6. I have been teaching for almost 15 years, with stops in Fox Creek and Hinton. I have recently completed my Masters in Educational Technology, through UBC.
