In Canada 1 in 3 of children are impacted by trauma, while caregivers (including educators) have extremely limited resources as how to identify and help these children heal when they have impacted by adverse experiences. Children affected by trauma can present significant challenges, and often display patterns of behaviour that can strain the relationship between the child and those caring for them. During this session educators will explore the impact of trauma on neurological development, and how it can uniquely present in the classroom. Select, key strategies will be presented to support children and teens following experiences of trauma, including the importance of attachment, connection, and the power of story telling in shifting the adverse impact of trauma on children's development.
