In Canada 1 in 3 of children are impacted by trauma, while caregivers (including educators) have extremely limited resources as how to identify and help these children heal when they have impacted by adverse experiences. Children affected by trauma can present significant challenges, and often display patterns of behaviour that can strain the relationship between the child and those caring for them. During this seminar you will explore the impact of trauma on neurological development and how this presents in the classroom. Strategies to support children and teens following experiences of trauma will be presented, giving attendees concrete ways in which they can support these students in their lives. And most importantly, a framework of how to foster a school culture that prioritizes resiliency, attachment, safety, and emotion regulation will be outlined for educators and administrators.
