1 in 100 people or 42,000 Albertans are living with schizophrenia, a treatable brain disorder. The onset most often occurs between 15 and 25 years of age and this illness does not discriminate. All genders, races, socioeconomic and education levels are all equally affected by schizophrenia. Starry Night is an impactful play that was written by and is performed by people living with schizophrenia. The performers hope is that the play will provide insight into what it is like to live with schizophrenia and foster increased empathy and understanding for all those living with this illness. After the play, the 13 cast members are very open to answering questions about the play, about living with schizophrenia and their own journeys to recovery. The Starry Night Performance is educational and exemplifies recovery in action. It is an extraordinary performance by extraordinary individuals.
